Algorithms and machine learning

Information technology is increasingly based on intelligent components, which are often implemented using machine-learning techniques. Learning complex models requires computationally efficient methods. Furthermore, the increasing amounts of data in applications create new demands for algorithmic performance. Accordingly, the sub-programme emphasises efficient algorithms for intelligent systems and their applications in areas such as computational biology. The theory and applications of efficient algorithms and intelligent systems are also studied from a more general point of view.

Students graduating from the sub-programme are typically employed as technical specialists or scientists. The general methodological skills learned during the studies are useful also in projects that apply information technology, both in industry and academia.
