* The marked change in the distribution of research staff in the staff statistics was caused by the implementation of a four-stage structure in official posts at the University of Helsinki on 1 January 2007 while cancelling the title of Researcher. According to the new nomenclature, undergraduates formerly working under the title of Researchers are now Research Assistants and are members of the research support staff, while all postgraduates are Doctoral Students regardless of backer.
