The doctoral thesis work in the participating units is typically organized in small research groups, in which a post-doctoral or senior researcher has at most two or three graduate students under his/her daily supervision, giving the students the opportunity to directly learn working practices, scientific reporting, etc. from this researcher. (At Aalto, some students have an instructor in addition to a supervisor.)
