Hecse
The Helsinki Graduate School in Computer Science and Engineering is a postgraduate programme jointly offered by the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) and the University of Helsinki (UH). The year 2006 was the twelfth year of operations for the graduate school, and the last of the current funding period. There are some 80 post-graduates in the school. Of them, 20 have a salaried position. In addition to the salaried positions, Hecse offers post-graduates special courses, funding for summer schools and annual meetings.
In 2006, the focus in the school lay on the following areas: adaptive and intelligent systems (especially modern data analysis and its applications, neural networks); computing theory (especially modelling based on formal methods and verification, computational logic); software for future information networks (especially ubiquitous computing); and the Internet, wireless communications, data security and multimedia along with their software tools, technology and methods. In the period starting in 2007, the operations and focal points of the post-graduate school will change slightly.
All four post-graduates who finished their doctoral degrees in 2006 at the Department of Computer Science had participated in Hecse at some point of their studies.
