Perhaps some convenient include file should contain something like
this:

#ifdef CONFIG_DEBUG_KERNEL
#define whistleblower() \
printk(KERN_ERR "this interface may call back after deregistration\n");
#else
#define whistleblower() /* no failure is silent in Oopsland */
#endif
