The doctoral colloquium offers a chance for PhD students to receive high- quality feedback from external reviewers and to directly interact with peers, to exchange ideas, discuss concepts, and establish informal cooperation between research groups.

  • Short introduction of participants
9:30 - 12:00 Morning session: Papers 1-4, 30 min each
  • Presentation of the PhD topic paper by candidate, 15 min
  • Comments and discussion, started by the assigned panellists and then open discussion, also the other students 15 min

Some practical instructions

One presentation of 20 minutes for the main doctoral colloquium which should include:
  • Describe your topic area big picture (to general engineering/researcher audience). Please do not assume that everybody is an expert in your specific topic, but try to explain the overall area you are dealing with, e.g. with scenarios or short user stories.
  • What is the problem you try to solve and why it is important?
  • What is new in your work (novelty from a scientific point of view)?
  • What is the status of the work now (plan, started, half way there, almost ready...)?
  • Do you have publications on the topic?
  • What kind of advice, help and discussion you'd like to get from DC? Please reserve at least 3 minutes for this item and focus on anything that you currently see as an open issue (e.g. how to embed your work into current research areas, which other issues might need to be considered, or specific technical questions).
