GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SELF-ASSESSMENT
The self-assessment is the provider's (koulutusohjelman tarjoaja) evaluation of the quality of the programme. How this evaluation process is organised is entirely within the power of the provider. The steering group of the project will only set the guidelines for writing the self-assessment report. The language of the self-assessment report is English.
The report consists of two different parts (A and B) and appropriate appendices as described below:
A. DESCRIPTION: QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE INFORMATION
This part concentrates on description and facts concerning the programme and the polytechnic/ university. The guidelines consist of eleven different topics which are numbered. It is recommended that each of the topics is discussed. The items below each topic should not restrict the provider to bring forward any other issues that are felt important. If some of the recommended items can not be covered that should be mentioned in the text.
The absolute maximum number of pages in this part is 15 excluding the appendices, font can be Times and the font size 12. The provider should keep to the main titles presented in the guidelines but the subtitles can be freely selected. The provider may also decide how to divide the given number of pages among the different topics. The name of the polytechnic/university and of the programme as well as page numbering are presented at the heading (ylätunniste) of the document.
B. SELF-ASSESSMENT: THE EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF THE PROGRAMME
Part B of the report includes the same headings as used in part A but now the content involves the assessment. Each of the topics are advised to be reviewed with an analytical approach. Both strengths, weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats should be discussed in each topic. Furthermore, whenever appropriate the assessment should include an analysis of the coherence between the set objectives and the topic in question. Where weaknesses are acknowledged, the self-assessment should include discussion of the actions to improve quality. If some of the topics can not be covered that should be mentioned in the text.
This part is the most important, so it is recommended that the provider reserves enough time for it. Furthermore, it is recommended that the students be engaged to the self-assessment process as well.
The number of pages is not limited even though a reference is given. The format may be the same as in part A.
