582710 PhD student seminar (1 cr/semester, max 6 cr)
A total of 6 credits (i.e., six terms) from PhD Student Seminars are compulsory for a PhD degree. All 6 credits are given at the end of the PhD studies of a student.
The seminar meets about two times per term.General

Who will or should attend?
The seminar is an obligatory part of the postgraduate studies at the Department of Computer Science for students that have been accepted for postgraduate studies after 1 August 2008. New students should attend the seminar from the beginning. Students who have started their postgraduate studies during the last years are highly recommended to attend.To pass the seminar students should
- attend at least 75% of the meetings during 3 years (i.e., 9 times out of 12 if the seminar meets twice/term)
- give at least two presentations
- a presentation after about two years of studies on the student's progress so far: the first half of the presentation would be on a general level (remember your audience) about that you have done so far, the other half about what your thesis will look like and also how your plan to finish the thesis looks like
- a presentation on a chosen subject, e.g., the topic of an accepted conference article
- review papers and get reviews for own papers
- Some suggestions for talks and discussion
- A possibility to replace some of the obligatory requirements with some other task by agreement of the teachers.

- Poster presentation mode
- Posters 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 will be presented during 13.30-14.30.
- Posters 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 will be presented during 14.30-15.30.
- You should present your poster during the time slot given to your supervisor, mentors, fellow students and other interested parts.
- Poster feedback mode
- You are in feedback mode, when you are not in presentation mode.
- You should give written feedback (forms available) during the other time slot to at least three posters
- You must give feedback to the other poster on the same stand as your own.
- In addition give feedback to two other posters
- If your mentors happens to show up during your feedback mode, you are allowed to break off that mode and present your poster to your mentor

- For the poster exhibition do the following:
- Update your research plan if need and send it to your two mentors (if you have been appointed some). All students starting arter 1 August 20008 shold have mentors.
- Make a poster about your research. (You may use a recent one.) Mostly your research project should carry the cost for this.
- Present your poster at the poster exhibition to mentors and other dept staff.
New students
New students should prepare one slide presenting themselves (name, supervisor, group, topic of PhD studies). Please make a pdf version of the slide, bring it along on a USB stick, or put it on the web beforehand.
