Abstract
Database design is typically divided into four phases,
requirement analysis, conceptual design, logical design
and physical design. Between these phases we need mappings
to transform the result of one phase to its successor phase.
This approach applies even to the design of object-oriented
databases, using the entity-relationship model in the
conceptual design phase and F-Logic (an object-oriented
database model) in the logical design phase. The benefits
of this approach are shown, and a mapping from the
entity-relationship model to the object-oriented model is
introduced. Special attention is bestowed on the improvement
of the outcome of this mapping.
Tervetuloa!
