And IA32 applications run on IA64 without recompiling????
Or worse, a 286 app runs on IA64...

No. sorry. There are limits to backward compatability.. Even M$ is dropping
that...which is why their server 2003 doesn't run some (a lot of?) NT 3/4
apps.
