(Perhaps a naive idea) Right now, there is a single "rep nop" per poll.  What 
happens if you unroll the loop a few times:

while (!condition) {
	cpu_relax();
	cpu_relax();
	cpu_relax();
}

?  I have no HT hardware so can't test this.
