Another issue is that with all tried 2.4.x kernels halt or reboot will
lock the machine, forcing hard reset.
Kernel compiled as generic, since it does not boot using the system type
from /proc/cpuinfo
I'd be happy to give more info, or test something..
2.4.18 gave me a oops, and the box survived :
