Hello. I received several Ooops!es today after upgrading to 2.4.16 +
preemptive patch from http://www.tech9.net/rml/linux/.
I used this same kernel yesterday without problems, but today it crashed
miserably after only fifteen minutes.
The first oops! occured after pressing "play" in xmms after having it
set on "pause" for about ten minutes. Xmms segfaulted (see attached
oops!), and afterwards X bombed completely. I could log in on two
virtual consoles, but nothing worked (like "ps ax" etc.), and afterwards
the machine was completely dead. (I could switch consoles but nothing more).
It seems only the first oops! got logged into /var/log/messages, but
several others occured while trying to log in on the console.
I think the error message that appeared along with the oops was
"Unable to handle kernel paging request".
I'm running yesterday's version of Debian Sid.
Please email me back if you need additional information!
With regards,
Frode

ksymoops 2.4.3 on i686 2.4.16preemptive. Options used
-V (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.4.16preemptive/ (default)
-m /boot/System.map-2.4.16preemptive (default)
Warning: You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will
assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.
