Roomba's Remote will not activate within 8 ft. of the Roomba Home Base (if applicable). The Roomba Home Base creates InfraRed (IR) frequency that overrides the frequency of the Roomba Remote.
How does Roomba find the Home Base?
The Home Base communicates with Roomba by sending out an InfraRed (IR) signal that extends 8 ft. from the front of the base. Roomba sees this signal and uses it like a tractor beam to find the Home Base. However, this signal does not penetrate walls or other obstructions—Roomba needs to “see” the IR signal in order to return to the Home Base.
Common docking issues (e.g. Roomba spins in circles in front of home base, or regularly has trouble docking) can usually be resolved by relocating the Home Base. For best results:
- Place the Home Base in an area that is free of obstructions
- Be sure the Home Base is at least 8 ft. away from a Virtual Wall (the
Virtual Wall also emits an IR signal, which can cause interference if
placed too close)
- Place the Home Base on a hard floor or low pile carpet.
