Call for bioinformatics internship positions in 2010
Master's Degree Programme in Bioinformatics (MBI) is a two-year programme offered jointly by the University of Helsinki and Helsinki University of Technology. MBI educates bioinformatics professionals for demanding research and developmental tasks in biology and medicine. A student accepted to the programme typically has a Bachelor's degree in either mathematics, statistics or computer science.
As a part of their degree, MBI students intern for 1-3 months in a research group or company with the aim of learning bioinformatics in practice. For an employer, bioinformatics internship gives an opportunity to find capable students for Master's thesis or postgraduate projects. The students typically take the internship phase after studying in the Master's programme for one year.
Internship takes place usually in summer between teaching periods (In 2010, May 24th - September 3rd). The time and duration of intership is agreed between the employer and student. MBI requires that the student is employed by the internship site for the duration of the internship.
MBI requires that the students write a weekly learning diary documenting the internship phase. Credits for the intership are awarded when the student submits an acceptable learning diary and a letter of reference from the employer.
MBI publishes the internship position announcements on a web page at www.cs.helsinki.fi/mbi/internship.html on 1st February 2010. Internship position announcements can be submitted also after this date.
Students contact the internship sites directly and negotiate the details of the internship with the site.
Internship position announcements will be available also to the students majoring in genetics and specializing in bioinformatics at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Helsinki.

Internship position announcements are removed when the annoucement expires or on request.
