My stable configuration:
RedHat 6.2 (russian Black Cat modification)
kernel 2.2.13 without module support (monolyte)
KDE
no SCSI
default linux charmap - koi8r locale Ru.KOI8R
This machine uses as workstation to acess Novell 3.12 server.
Novell volume constantly mounted to linux filesystem by ncpfs 2.2.0.17-3
Novell volume contains some directories and files named in russian (russian
letters).
When
kernel 2.4.0test4 / patch test5pre3 compiled with option
FileSystems->Network File systems->Lowercase DOS filnames ="on"
then
transformation of russian names and recognition of files/directories in Novell
volume is wrong.
New kernel sometimes understand files with russian names as
directories and directories with russian names as files in Novell volume. But
the others (in russian too) are recognized correctly.
Some russian directories under 2.4 became
lowcase (from uppercase), other became uppercase from lowercase, but there
are some some unchanged (unconverted) russian names.
Then, in some Novell directories KFM normally
go doun, but when your want to move up by the tree, machihe hangs. Its no
reaction both on ctrl-alt-backspace (shutdown X session) or in ctrl-alt-del.
Only hard reset is avaliable.
This behavior does not depend on russian or english names. Machine stably hangs
on some english and russian directories, and stably normally work with others.
It's no visible reason for this behavior.
It was no such problem on 2.2.13. Option lowercase works normanny in both
positions.
When "Lowercase DOS filenames=off" in 2.4, its no problem.
It was default NLS in "koi8-r" in both cases: the 1-st (unworkable) and 2-nd
(workable).
