long swapon times with pre6

Hello All,
I built and installed pre6 last night, and the first thing I noticed was
that it takes a LOT longer to add the swap space. At first I thought the
machine had crashed :-) I have a 64M swap partition and a 512M swap partition.
With 2.2.14 swapon() does not take any noticable amount of time. With
2.3.99-pre6 it takes about 15 seconds.
