I had a similar problem with a 3c900 which as of 2.3.99pre6 wanted to use
the 10baseT port on my 10base2 network. Eventually it got a clue, and now
most things seem to work (though there are some oddities with my choice of
modules, it would appear). Have you tried forcing your media type?
